Yes, you can bring your own item to LaserLux Lab and have it laser engraved with a name, a message or a logo. We are a mobile engraving studio in Princeton, TX, and we work with people across Collin County and Dallas. You send the details, you approve a digital proof, and only then do we engrave.

What "bring your own item" means

Bring Your Own Item, or BYOI, is for things you already own or have chosen: a leather portfolio, a tumbler, a wooden box, a watch case, a cutting board. Instead of buying from a catalog, you pick the item and we make it yours.

It is a good fit for executive gifts, wedding and anniversary gifts, retirement presents, team awards and keepsakes with real meaning.

What materials we can engrave

We work with more than 300 materials. These are the groups most people ask about.

Material groupTypical items
MetalCards, flasks, tumblers, pens, plaques
WoodBoxes, boards, frames, signs
LeatherPortfolios, wallets, key fobs
GlassDrinkware, awards, frames
Stone and slateCoasters, plaques

If you are unsure whether your item will work, describe it in the app or message the laser artist. We would rather tell you up front than engrave something that will not look right.

How the process works

Every order follows the same four steps.

  1. Open the My Item tab and tell us what you are engraving.
  2. Add your text or upload a logo or image. The maximum design size is 5 by 5 inches.
  3. Review the preview and the digital proof.
  4. Approve it, and we engrave.

Nothing is engraved until you approve the proof. That one step prevents most mistakes: a misspelled name, a logo that is too small, a design that sits too close to an edge.

Text, logos and photos

Text is the simplest option and often the most elegant. A name, a date and one short line on a quality item is hard to beat. Logos work best when they are clear and high contrast. Photos can be engraved on metal and glass, and the best results come from sharp images with strong light and dark areas.

We engrave in English, Arabic, Japanese, Chinese and Spanish. Hindi and Urdu are special requests with the laser artist, and the app preview cannot show them, so we confirm those by message instead.

Planning around your date

Give yourself time. If a gift is for a wedding, a retirement or a company event, start early so there is room for the proof and any changes. For larger orders, such as a gift for every member of a team, message us with your quantity and deadline and we will plan it with you.

Gifts that work for business

Engraved gifts are a smart way to thank clients and recognize employees. A leather portfolio with a client's name, a metal pen engraved with a team logo, or a wooden box marked with a date all say the gift was chosen with care.

When to use live engraving instead

If you need many items at once for guests, a live engraving station at your event can do the personalization on the spot at 15 to 25 guests per hour. Live engraving is $275 per hour with a 2-hour minimum. See live engraving for corporate events for the full picture.

Common questions

Do I have to drop my item off at a studio? No. LaserLux Lab is 100% mobile. We arrange pickup or meet you, and we will confirm the details with you directly.

Can I engrave more than one item? Yes. Describe your items and quantity in the app or message the laser artist.

What if I am not sure my design will fit? The maximum design is 5 by 5 inches. The preview shows you how it sits on the item before anything is engraved.

Choosing an item that engraves well

Some items look better than others after engraving. These are good questions to ask before you buy or bring something.

  • Is the surface smooth and clean? Smooth surfaces give the sharpest detail.
  • Is there enough flat space for the design? The maximum is 5 by 5 inches.
  • Is the finish a coating or a raw material? Both can work, and they look different.
  • Will the item be handled a lot? Engraving is permanent, so it holds up to daily use.

When in doubt, describe the item in the app. The laser artist reviews it and tells you honestly whether it is a good candidate.

Design tips that save time

DoAvoid
Keep names and dates shortLong paragraphs of text
Use a high-resolution logoLow-quality screenshots
Leave space around the designPushing text to the edge
Check spelling twiceApproving a proof in a hurry

A simple design is almost always the better one. A name, a date and a clean line of text on a good item feels intentional.

A note on gifts for groups

If you are buying for a team, send a list of names and the quantity. We can engrave a consistent design with a different name on each item, and the proof lets you check all of them before anything is engraved. For group gifts at an event, live engraving can handle the personalization while guests watch.

Common questions

The maximum design size is 5 by 5 inches.

Which languages can you engrave?

English, Arabic, Japanese, Chinese and Spanish. Hindi and Urdu are special requests with the laser artist, and the app preview cannot show those.
